Cat Barks At The Window, Then When She Gets Caught, She Starts Meowing!

Clearly there is something fascinating out there and we can hear barking. The cat slowly turns around to face the owner and we realize that the barking is coming from the cat itself!

When teaching babies animal sound we always teach them that the dog barks and the cat meows. But what if that is not always the case? A 22-second YouTube Video with a black cat has garnished millions of views in a single week. In the shot we can see a black cat looking out the window. Clearly there is something fascinating out there and we can hear barking. The cat slowly turns around to face the owner and we realize that the barking is coming from the cat itself.

At this point the cat quickly switches back into meowing as it looks at its owner. It certainly makes one wonder if the cat was caught in the act and didn’t want the owner to know about its unique vocalization talents. How is it possible for a cat to bark? According to a veterinary behaviorist at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine a cat’s larynx, trachea, and diaphragm are similar enough that if the cat operates it a certain way it will produce a noise that sounds exactly like a bark!

When a cat gets overly excited it can result in forced meow with quickly rushes air through the air passage. As a result the meow turns into a bark instead. The cat may also be imitating a sound it hears often. Cats have been known to imitate birds with a chattering noise or cry’s when excited-could it be the cat is imitating a dog outside?
