The best part is that they’re going to salsa and you wouldn’t believe the Paddy’s age! She will be your new hero. I guarantee that!
What if I told you that Paddy Jones is almost 81 years old and she’s a British salsa dancer?! Yes you heard that right. Born as Sarah Patricia “Paddy” Jones on the 1st of July 1934, Paddy is a British salsa dancer, best known for winning the Spanish talent show “Tú sí que vales” together with her partner Nico in 2009. In 2014, Paddy and Nico competed in Britain’s Got Talent’s eighth series and finished in night place! Apart from that, let me also tell you that Paddy is current Guinness World Record holder for the ‘Oldest Acrobatic Salsa Dancer‘.
Now a little about Paddy, she was born in Stourbridge, England and started practicing classical dance when she was just 30 months old (2½ years old) and then when she was 15, she started taking classes in more disciplines. At the age of 22 she married David and left dancing. Then when David retired in 2001, they moved to Gandia, Spain where David unfortunately died of leukemia after just 18 months. When her husband died, Paddy decided to take flamenco classes at Nicolás “Nico” Espinosa’s academy of dance where she learned to dance salsa with Nico, who is 40 years younger that her!
When she went up on stage, everyone was rather shocked to see an old woman and no one knew what they could expect from her. Simon Cowell was dumbfounded said, “Well, this is weird.“
After comments from some other judges, Simon asked, “Do you think you’re going to win this show?” to which Paddy replied, “Oh, it would be very nice, but just as long as people enjoy what we’re doing and we give people pleasure that’s the main thing.” It started off pretty slow and Simon Cowell hit the button, but what happened next left him stunned! Then he apologized!
